Calculations, config checks, file hashing, decoding and the self-assessment run entirely on your device and are never sent to us. There are three exceptions, each clearly marked on the tool:<\/p><ul class=\"l\"><li><b>Domain email security checker<\/b> sends the domain name you enter to Google Public DNS (dns.google), or Cloudflare (cloudflare-dns.com) as a fallback, to look up public DNS records.<\/li><li><b>Password breach check<\/b> sends only the first 5 characters of the SHA-1 hash of your password to Have I Been Pwned (api.pwnedpasswords.com). Your password itself is never sent (see the explanation on that page).<\/li><li><b>Links you click<\/b> to other websites, such as documentation and standards, take you to those sites under their own privacy policies.<\/li><\/ul><\/section>\n<section class=\"sec\" id=\"pp-cookies\"><h3>Cookies<\/h3><p>Unless you accept analytics, we use only cookies needed for the site to work, including one that remembers your cookie choice (mag212_consent): WordPress cookies for logged-in editors and comment authors, and cookies set by our caching and security software. We do not use advertising cookies. Only if you click \u201cAccept\u201d on our cookie banner, we use Microsoft Clarity on articles and the homepage. Clarity is an analytics service that sets first-party cookies (such as _clck and _clsk) and records anonymized page interactions such as clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, so we can see which pages are useful and fix layout problems.
