Generate
Uses crypto.getRandomValues() with rejection sampling, so every character or word is equally likely. Passphrases use the EFF large wordlist (7,776 words, CC BY 3.0) — about 12.9 bits of entropy per word. Check any password with the password strength & breach checker.
Password or passphrase?
| Use | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Stored in a password manager | Random password, 20+ characters | Maximum strength; you never type it. |
| Password manager master password, computer login | Passphrase, 5–6 words | About 65–78 bits of entropy and memorable. |
| Wi-Fi network (WPA2/WPA3) | Passphrase, 5+ words | Easy to read out to guests; resists offline cracking of captured handshakes. |
| Network device local account | Random password, 20+ characters | Store it in a vault; prefer TACACS+/RADIUS for daily logins. |
